Air Infiltration, Window Seals and Drafts

Air Infiltration

Windows leaking air can be a common, yet huge problem regarding air infiltration into your home. Especially in older homes, windows did not come with quality weather stripping and even re-sealing these old windows may not hold up against harsh outdoor conditions. The biggest problem surrounding air infiltration is of course energy inefficiency. Nobody wants a higher energy bill or having to replace an air conditioning unit or furnace prematurely.

Air infiltration causes cold drafts and temperature differences within a room, which frequently causes the thermostat to be set higher, so that the average temperature is at the desired level. Soundproof Windows reduces the air infiltration into your home. By reducing the air infiltration, no longer will thermostats have to set high to enjoy a comfortable temperature level inside a home or office.

Window Seals

Window seals can be fickle. Windy conditions make them leak along with wear and tear that happens over time.

Most windows seals typically start leaking significantly within a few years, but our system is different. Soundproof Window seals are guaranteed for 50 years, and we have a fifty year track record to prove they will last.

Our frame seals are held under a constant tension, using custom made tempered stainless steel springs that actively squeeze down on the window – which means our window seal is flexible, constant and always working. These constant pressure seals will perform just as good in 50 years as they do on the day they are installed, and assures that the air infiltration rates will always be virtually non-existent.

What a current window leaks now, our window will seal out. Soundproof Windows completely neutralize the air infiltration of any window.

Drafts

For those that have browsed the internet on how to prevent a drafty window, most probably come across some cheap and “quick fix” solutions. Ultimately, over time these temporary fixes will need to be maintained more frequently or re-done all together. Interior windows help combat the problem all together and do not require maintenance. Most likely if windows are letting in a draft, it is caused by a failed or damaged window seal, poorly installed window, cracks in window caulking, windows that are too old or if they are made from wood or aluminum.

With Soundproof Windows, drafts created by pressure differences all but disappear. For example, if a door is opened, a draft blows out through the door. The draft pulled air in through the leaking window seals. Now, in practice this draft may blow in through the door or out the door. With the constant pressure seals in Soundproof Windows, the forced pressure drafts are reduced or stopped completely.
